Don't Miss It

I don't think that I have ever done a movie review here at Coastal Charm, but just couldn't help myself from doing this one...ladies...it's that GOOD!!! Since I was born in the deep South in the late 50's (now I know it's hard to believe that I'm that old..he he)...I knew that this movie was a must see for me and my mom. Since I'm a thrifty gal...my mom and I went to the THRIFT time show at half price to see this wonderful movie...so glad we did...best movie that I have seen in years!!! Do yourself a favor and don't miss this one ladies...even at full price...it's worth it! Just thought I would let you know a little fact about myself...chocolate pie is my all time time favorite:)
                                          Thanks for coming by and
                                             I love your comments,

I just went to see "The Help" last night with my daughter. I thought it was a very good movie too. The thing I enjoyed the most was the ladies' hair, makeup, clothes. The insides of the homes were also very interesting to see. I would love to see a 'behind the scenes" clip of what all went into making the movie's details. I was an extra in the movie "Big Fish" in the scenes that were in the 1950's. The costume people even made us wear authentic
bras and girdles under our authentic 50's outfits.

Everyone played their part just perfect. Exactly how I pictured in the book, which by the way gives much more break-ground and depth to every moment. A must read too. Minnie makes one heck of a chocholate pie, she is such a little poop! tee hee! You know the author played a part a junior league member in one the meeting scene.

I loved the book and loved the movie! Did you know that the actor playing the part of the lady that ate the pie is Ron Howard's daughter?

Hi Linda, I stopped over from Marigene's place. I am a huge movie fan so I will take your advice and go watch this one and I think I'll do so this weekend. I'll stop by and let you know how it went.

Looking forward to visiting. LOVE your header. I'm from South Florida. I have lived here for over 40 years and needless to say, I'm in love with the ocean.

Enjoy your weekend.

The three of us read the book this summer and enjoyed it. We are southerners and I grew up in S.C and Joe in Ga. however we did not have maids. I do think it tells a one sided story.

Oh I can't say enough good things about this movie

I read the book a couple years ago and the movie is right on

I know this was a terrible time in our history but I lived through these times also.
I remember when I was 14 we moved south and was i in for a shock coming from the north. Girl I felt so bad for how things were in the south

however I love the south and visit every year Savannag Georgia.

I am a good southern girl living in the midwest dreaming of being a full time southern girl(ole woman) LOL

This movie is the best! It is the first movie that I have ever been to where people laughed and applauded!!

Joe and I saw it last night and were very pleased that the script stayed so close to the book. At the end of the movie not one person moved or stood up. Everyone watched the credits very quietly.

Olive is right... there is more to the story. Before going to see this movie (or buying the book) perhaps you should read some information about the lawsuit that the real Black maid, Ablene Cooper, has filed against the author Kathryn Stockett. Briefly, the lawsuit maintains that the author used Ms. Cooper's name, likeness, or image without her permission and that the author refused to honor Ms. Cooper's request to not be included in the book. She has also refused to compensate Ms. Cooper even after earning millions. Our legal system may find otherwise, but I won't see the movie.

I must update re: my earlier comment. A judge dismissed Ms. Cooper's lawsuit because the one year stature of limitations elapsed between Ms. Cooper reading the book and filing the lawsuit. No ruling was made on the merits of the case. I still won't see the movie.

I read the book about 6 months ago. I grew up in the South during the same period that you did, Linda. Our family didn't have much help, though. I haven't been to see a movie at the theater in over 2 years, but I'm going to see this movie this week.

I loved this movie so much and am going to see it again this week. I grew up during this time and yes things were horrible, but there were a few good people like the author in this movie who tried to change things. I think the maids in this movie came of as the good loving people that most of them were.At our theater in Jacksom,Ms. it was like Olive said, not one person stood up to rush out and when they exited it was complete silence. I think this movie moved a lot of people.

We always go to the early shows around here. $6 instead of $11 is a great savings and then we go to lunch or get frozen yogurt.

Oh I saw the trailer of that movie. Will push Hubs to go for it :)
