Grandma's White Wednesday

This week I'm posting about two of my favorite treasures that belonged to my GRANDMA. When time came to clean out my grandparents house... I only had one request...can I PLEASE have that CUTE little white CHICKEN from her dresser? Yes...my request was honored and now I was her new owner...I was one happy gal. As a little girl, I had always admired this little chicken candy dish that sat on her dresser filled with her HAIRPINS...yes hairpins! I didn't know as a child that it was a candy dish...boy I sure would have been disappointed. I also came home with several other items from their home and this wardrobe was one of them. I painted it WHITE and it has been used in my cottage...oldest daughter used it in her condo at college and now it's located in my youngest daughter's room here at home. This wardrobe is by no means a fine piece of furniture, but to me it's worth a million bucks!

I guess GRANDMA wanted to keep the little ones away from her cute CHICKEN dish...so we got HAIRPINS instead of CANDY!

Family treasures...they don't get any better than this!

I did add these cute glass knobs.

I'm joining the following parties today with my GRANDMA's WHITE TREASURES!

Love that wardrobe! My Mamaw had something similar. I also used to have a couple of those chicken dishes, both clear and one had a candle. They must have flown the coop because I don't have them around anymore. Hope you are having a great day. :) Tammy

I love that chicken and my great grandmother had one but she kept jelly beans in it and not hairpins...lucky me!

That wardrobe is beautiful and I love that you painted it white...so pretty! Such wonderful treasures to have from your grandma!

I hope you're having a great Wednesday!

I love the wardrobe! The wall color is pretty too. I have an antique dressing table that was my grandmother's and I use it everyday to put my makeup on and do my hair. It is one of my prized possessions.

Oh Linda,
The chicken story is priceless! You did a great job on the wardrobe. I love those glass knobs. The best treasures are from family. Not the uber expensive museum quality "stuff".

Love the wardrobe! Looks as thought it would hold a lot. And my mother and grandmother both had chicken dishes setting in their homes. Sorry do not remember there being any candy. They were probably empty. Very cute!

How sweet! I love the treasures my grandma has given me! She is getting older - 85 - and for Christmas she often goes through her cabinets & closets for gifts for the grandchildren. I think some of my cousins are mortified by this, but I'm always thrilled because I always get some type of wonderful dish to treasure of hers!

What a wonderful family treasure! I just love it! The glass knobs are a sweet touch. I wanted to buy some from a man at the flea market, but he wanted way too much for them.....love your hen too, reminds me of my aunt who loves hens and chickens. Happy VTT!

Hi Linda,
I love the wardrobe,it looks gorgeous in white, and little chicken is a cutie. I think I would still keep hairpins in there. You know, strange tho it may be, I can still see my grandmother pinning her hair up with those wider hair pins..her hair was longer and quite beautiful. Somehow, with a twist and a turn and a pin, it was all done. Memories are so sweet..
Happy VTT,have a great weekend.

I've always LOVED milk glass. To me there is nothing prettier than a small milk glass vase with one red rose in it! I think I love your chicken, and your grandma was pretty clever to keep her hair pins in it - - - much prettier than a paper cup or some other utilitarian container!

I think the wardrobe IS a fine piece of furniture! I LOVE it - - - I like that it has three vertical sections, and that little mirrored door at the top of the center section - - - how COOL is that?

You got some lovely things from your grandparents. The chickie is cute and the wardrobe is great. It looks wonderful next to that bright wall.

Family treasures are definitely the best. Love the story behind your grandmother's hen on a nest. We have quite a collection of those chicks that all started with one like Hub's grandma's who kept starlight mints in hers.

That wardrobe is absolutely beautiful, especially with those vintage suitcases on top! And the chicken is so sweet. Do you keep hairpins in it like Grandma did? You're lucky to have such wonderful family heirlooms. Grandma's stuff is always the best stuff!
Happy VTT!

Great family treasures!

Wonderful milk glass chicken! Your grandmother was very smart to keep it in her bedroom-lots of them around without the lid!

You did a great job refurbishing the wardrobe-the glass knobs are just what it needed!
