Winter Storm on the Alabama Gulf Coast

Hello y'all, all is well here at Coastal Charm. We have not left our home since Monday night and yes, I'm about to go crazy!! Thank goodness our weather forecasters got this one right and everything on both sides of the bay closed down in time. I feel so bad for some other forecasters that didn't get it right. Hey folks, we are all human and things like this happen. Two cities that got hit hard without much warning was, Birmingham and Atlanta. Since I have family and friends in both of these cities, I was very concerned about their well being. My nephew in Atlanta, spent four hours stranded at a restaurant, then decided to walk 3 miles to a friends house for the night. Thank goodness, he made it home today around 2:00 p.m. safe and sound. I have a cousin also in Atlanta, and after spending 5 1/2 hours (only going 20 miles), he had no choice but to spend the night in his car. He was hoping to get a hotel room, but their were none available in walking distance. He finally did make it home this morning. In Birmingham, we had friends stranded on the highways and running out of gas. I'm happy to report that they all finally made it home safe and sound, after walking for hours in the ice and snow. I'm sure that to some of you, this sounds silly, but ICE is nothing to mess with down here in the deep South. We can handle hurricanes, but we are not equipped to handle Winter storms. I have been busy painting furniture and later today, Mr.CC and I will tackle a major clean up in our home office...wish us some luck...we will need it. Our roads will not be safe for travel until Thursday afternoon, and I am praying that I can get out then. I sure hate to think that I might spend my birthday at home, that doesn't sound like fun to this old gal. Now, let's see what a ice/snow storm looks like here at Coastal Charm.
                                                       Blessings,
                                                         Linda

It's a tad bit cold and wet, to sit here today.
So, let me show you around my nest.
We were hoping for snow, but most of this is ICE!!
My poor palms...I sure hope they can survive this ice.
                                        Icicles on my ivy.
Watch out for that ice on the patio.

This is when I want a garage.

                                                  Very icy!
This pic was taken after our street was free of ice.

Here is where Coastal Charm at the beach is located
(my beach condo). Yes folks, this is the beach highway
covered with ice, in Orange Beach, AL.
NOTE...this pic belongs to a friend of mine.

I have lived here all my life and have never
seen ice on our beaches. Hey, you have a
choice today, build a sand castle or make a
                                                    ICEMAN!!!

This sums it up...I do want to
wear my flip flops asap!
Just think, when I go to my beach condo
on Saturday, I might wear some, our
temps will be in the 70's...yippee!!!

Nifty Thrifty Tuesday No.197

Here on the Alabama gulf coast, we love our beautiful white sand and this week the sand will be covered in snow. Yes, you read that correctly, the weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is calling for ice and snow here on the coast. This winter storm is going to be hugging the coastline, so watch out all you snowbirds, the snow has followed you down here. We don't get much in the way of ice and snow, so our schools and some businesses will be closed. Now, we can handle a hurricane, but give us a winter storm, and we are all thumbs. Please y'all, say a prayer that this storm will be just snow and no ice. I guess you all know what I will be doing during the storm...PAINTING UP A STORM (ha ha)!!! I started painting on Saturday, and by the time this storm passes, I should have about a dozen pieces of furniture ready to deliver to Coastal Charm Interiors on Thursday. I have some wonderful features to share with you this week, so please take time to check them out.
                                                      Blessings,
                                                        Linda

Bedsprings Inspiration

Since it's so darn cold outside and we are all cooped up in our homes, what a great time to get creative huh? Well, I've been a little creative around here lately and today I will share with all of you, one of my creations. First, we will start with a new vignette in the kitchen. I changed out my chalkboard, then I painted a new color on a picture frame, so it would flow better in this room. So, what are you doing during this big freeze?
                                                     Blessings,
                                                        Linda

I am really happy with how this turned out...so
it just might stay as is until Spring arrives.

This frame was painted red where the white
is, and red just doesn't flow in my kitchen. So,
I got my paintbrush out and took care of that.

Okay y'all, this is my newest creation. Whatcha think?

I think I will call it "The Old Rugged Cross".

Chippy Goodness

The weekend is almost here...oh happy day!!! Well, since I work on my own schedule, I guess it really shouldn't be a big deal to me, but it is. Back last month when I shared a Christmas tour of my kitchen, I found it funny, that so many of you noticed a new addition to this room. I didn't mention it on the tour, but hey, you all don't miss a beat. So, today I thought I would share this chippy goodness with you. It was for sure love at first sight! I found this beauty at a wonderful shop located in the charming town of Franklin, Tennessee. If you are ever in Franklin, you must make a stop at City Farmhouse. The owners Kim and David, have one of the best shops in the South, you can click here and see for yourself. When I spotted it, I knew right away where it was going in my home. When I hung it up, I was so excited that it looked perfect in it's new home. As most of you know, I love ironstone, but did you know that I have a thing for chippy paint? Oh yes, chippy paint has been a favorite of mine for years. How about you, do you have chippy paint goodies in your home? It's now time to see this beauty, so, here she is!
                                                      Blessings,
                                                         Linda

                                             Home Sweet Home!!!

                                     Ironstone+chippy paint=CHARM!

I kinda have a thing for rusty too.

What an awesome old rusty hatch.

Ahhhhh...just the way I like it.

So, the next time I post a pic here on my blog,
I better make sure that everything seen in the
pic is okay to share, if you know what I mean.
