This trip has been on my bucket list for a few years now, so when my sweet friend Judy asked me to go along with her, I was "all in". Wednesday morning, my alarm went off at 4:30 and I had no problem getting up, because I was sooooo excited to jump in my car and head north. Our first stop was in Fort Payne, Alabama and my first purchase was a box of ironstone...SCORE!!! I knew then, that this was going to be one awesome pickin' trip and it was! My second purchase was a wonderful old drop leaf kitchen table and I was so proud of myself, because I loaded it into my car, with no help. My sweet hubs, is usually with me on pickin' trips and he does all the heavy lifting. So, I was a tad bit concern, if I could do it without him and I did. Our first night, we had rented a cabin in the mountains and we made a huge mistake, we didn't arrive until after dark. The cabin was located on a lake and let me just say this, it was very remote and extremely hard to find. The roads were lanes, there were no street lights and we were so scared that we might make a wrong turn and end up in the lake. We had no cell service, so we couldn't call the owner. Thank goodness, we found a neighbor in their driveway and they helped us out. The owner really needs to put out a better sign (we spotted it the next morning...black letters on dark wood...doesn't show up very well at night) at the entrance to the narrow driveway in the middle of the woods. I was never so happy to see the sun come up the next day and head out of this place, so I could call my hubs and tell him I was still alive. Our second day was spent in Clarkrange and Crossville, Tennessee areas. We had rain off and on all day, so I didn't get many pictures that day, but I did buy a lot of goodies. Our third day, we headed to Mentone, Alabama and I loved that area. I had never been there before and I look forward to returning there, with Mr.CC. I got lucky in Mentone and found some really neat things and my car was filling up fast. On our fourth and last day, we shopped south of Fort Payne and down to Gadsden, Alabama. I didn't buy much that day, but the things that I did get, are some super "cool" items. Well, I was a newbie this year, but now I am a PRO (ha ha) at the World's Longest Yard Sale!!!
Blessings,
Linda
The cabin that took forever to find!
We did have a nice view from the front porch.
Luv all these old Coke signs.
Our second night was spent in this
cute little cabin (it was much easier to locate).
We enjoyed a delicious lunch here at the
"Wildflower Café" in Mentone.
We even had live music at lunchtime.
I treated myself to piece of
hummingbird cake and it was
sooooo good!!!!!
This old cobblers bench was my favorite
find on the trip, but it didn't come home
with me. It had just sold, but that was good,
because I didn't have room for it in my SUV.
I also, loved this super "cool" sofa...
and these chairs!!!
Now, let's start looking at some of things that I did
bring home.
I found a lot of pretty blue and white.
What a great ironstone pitcher.
I came home with several vintage planters.
I will have a wonderful selection of
ironstone at the shop, so for all you
locals, come by and check it out.
I am always looking for old crocks and cutting boards.
These two old German beer steins, were speaking to me.
It's hard for me to pass up anything
white and chippy.
Just look at this wonderful old bench.
It's a perfect find for me.
This old primitive dresser was my favorite item,
that came home with me. I will be cleaning it up
and using some MMS hemp oil on it. When I get
it all cleaned up, I will be sure to show it off with
y'all.
I knew that Mr.CC would luv the
pegged drawers and he did.
This is such a darn cute little
kids chair!!!!!
I found it at my last stop.
This is just a few of things that I purchased,
maybe I will get the rest of it posted soon.

ReplyDeleteLinda! Linda! How lucky you are. I've wanted to go to the Longest Yard Sale for a few years now. It is CERTAINLY on my bucket list. The cabin looks great and you brought home some wonderful finds.

I have heard about the longest yard sale before, Oh how I would love to be able to do that. Some great finds, what a great way to spend 4 days.
ReplyDeleteThis is on my "pail" list. Small bucket list. But I can only get my hunny bunny to head South in the fall. But I'm working on it. Till then I'll live it through you.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm in California I'll need to shop finds home.

It was my first trip to 127 too! Looks like we both had success. I'm still going through my finds... I bought so much in 3 days!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun Linda! I am loving that chippy bench and all of your goodies.
ReplyDeleteHey Linda. I had to chuckle when I saw the picture of that first cabin. I think I'm going to make a sign with reflective letters and send it to them as a gift to put out by the road, you know, where the lady voice in my car said, "You've reached your destination"...and we saw nothing but woods. Would have been perfect to look up and see something that you could actually read right about then... I feel like I need to do whatever I can to help future lady pickers NOT end up searching the woods like we did. Thank goodness Corinne had a flashlight and we have a story to tell that doesn't end with us sleeping in our cars.
ReplyDeleteYou did find some great things! I love the ironstone pitcher and the German beer steins...I actually love everything you found.
I will be posting sometime soon, as soon as I have a minute to unpack everything and take pictures.
It was so much fun (well, except for that first cabin) and I hope we can do it again!
Judy
Linda,
ReplyDeleteI did this longest yard sale a few years back with a girlfriend and like you our first cabin we stayed in was off the beaten path and hard to find too. When we opened up the door of the cabin there was a family of crazy squirrels jumping all over the beds. We did not stay there that night. It is hard to make reservations when you do not know how far you will get in a day. Lots of stops or not so many. It was great and we loved all the cute towns along the way. Looks like you got a lot of great treasures.
Kris
Linda, awesome finds! I love the chippy white bench the best, I think. Those are always useful - at the shop and at home - if you can keep them (they're popular). Glad your overnight stays didn't turn into a scene from Deliverance. It's always a little scary when you're traveling unchartered territory and it's disconnected from civilization. I've got ya cross-referenced in my post from the LYS sale, too. :)

The chippy white bench! The ironstone pitcher! The blue and white! Beautiful treasures! All worth the spooky first night.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun adventure! Love all your interesting pictures and finds. That dresser will be gorgeous after some hemp oil, then all the details will shine through. Love the chippy white bench too.
ReplyDeleteI have done this trip twice. It was so awesome. The first time I went with my sister and we would call my husband when we would be getting close to evening and have him find us a room. We took a tent but it was too hot for that. I am thinking about doing it again with my hubby.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about that cabin either. I remember a place we stayed, that was a little creepy as well.
I guess it is just part of the experience.
Bev
What fun. I envy you. The cabin looks fun. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteLooks like your finding some bargains. Thanks for taking us with you.
Have a safe trip.
Sounds like a fun trip. Love all your finds!
ReplyDeleteohhh how I would have loved to do this! It's just too hot for this ole gal.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun time y'all must have had, especially staying in such cute cabins.
So happy you get to check it off your bucket list Linda!
