I'm calling all my friends in blogland to help me out...I need some help with this wall basket! I had it at my condo for years, but I decided to change some things up there and so it came home with me. I have hung it on my pantry door, but the problem is...I don't know what I should put in it...PLEASE HELP!!!! I would luv to hear your ideas and know you gals must have some awesome creative ideas just waiting to share with me...sooooo...let me hear them...I'm all ears!

I love those wicker wall baskets. Was wanting one for quite some time, but haven't found on I like. I first saw a large wall container in on of Charles Faudree's books and he had it filled with lavender. So I think any kind of flowers would be nice. If it was in a bathroom it would look good with rolled towels and maybe a back brush stuffed in it. Just depends on where it is located as to what you cant fill it with. Tell Mr. CC you are not the only one changing things up a lot. I am always moving things.

ReplyDeleteSince it's on your pantry door, I would fill it with wooden utensils, maybe a whisk and add a red spoon for color. It looks kind of deep, so put a towel or something on the bottom to bring the utensils up a bit.

okay, here's an idea I saw somewhere, but never used. Hang it upside down above a bed and drape fabric out of it. I don't know what you call it, but it turned out looking like a canopy over the bed/headboard. Can you see it? good luck,-Denise

ReplyDeleteI would paint the basket a coordinating color of your kitchen. Green to match the pears would be super cute, then add some (real looking) long strands of grass (like striped pompass grass), herbs (lemon verbena, the lavender others talked about) something to add color and texture. ReplyDeleteHmmm. Lots of good suggestions already! I think I would paint it and distress it a little, then put some bright kitchen towels, wooden spoons, and maybe some flowers out of it. Love your wooden base with the pears too!
ReplyDeleteLavender here too. Or Rosemary, which also smells wonderful. At our house, it would too quickly become a catchall, for stray badminton birds, bottle caps, and dust!
ReplyDeleteFlowers was the first thing I thought of too. I see many others did as well. The kitchen towel idea also previously suggested is a good one. Find some with a motifs that match your little weekly window box changes.
ReplyDeleteso funny because i read the first comment and saw the "rolled towels" which is exactly what i was going to say- excapt not bath towels! i was thinking that you could put a few cute rolled dishtowels in it and hand one out the side, like a cute embroidered one from anthropologie. i do know one thing for sure- whatever you do do NOT out any fake ivy in it. YUCK!
ReplyDeleteI had to go back and look at what else was in your kitchen. I saw your cute bold fabric on your curtains and bamboo rods. So I would probably paint the basket a color form your curtains and then add something textural like see grass or something twiggy. You just want it secure and not floppy since you'll be opening that door a lot!

ReplyDeleteHummmm, I would add some pretty napkins or add some favorite decorating magazines in it. Or a combinaton of both.
I'm the fourth vote for sea grass because it's beachy. My husband bought me a "wall pocket" basket like this in Minnesota several years ago. It is covered with that peely ?birch? bark- so textural. It hung empty on wall, beautiful all by itself. Then I took apart a gorgeous rooster feather duster I'd bought in Manila from a street vendor. The feathers are greens that turn colors in the light-- lovely. I put foam inside the pocket then poked in the feathers- long ones, short ones. I love the result. Probably have a picture of it if you'd like. E-mail me and I'll share it!
ReplyDeleteI have a similar basket and I have always had the hardest time figuring out what to put in it. I once filled it with dried wheat but it shed everywhere. Just recently I put dried hydrangeas in the basket and I love it.

Maybe you could change it out seasonally with different dried and or artificial flowers/twigs/greenery. It's such a great basket! Love it!!

OK my friend, I have an idea, in fact I am going to be doing this in a little bit....you buy bread, rolls, etc.....let them get stale or put them in the oven on low til they get hollow....then you varnish them so they are shiny and coated....you can totally do that and they would look so cute, they keep forever....but if you do it, give me the credit LOL LOL!!~ Good luck on the giveaway Linda....glad you like it.

I had one of these on my front door for about a year. I changed it with seasonal flowers. I had so many compliments on it and then retired it. It was a great substitution for a wreath. Wish I had pictures to show you.
ReplyDeleteLots of wonderful ideas posted here for your basket. I like the idea of painting it white and distressing it a little. Then fill it with lavender and a white cotton linen tea towel with lace trim.

I think I would roll up some of my favorite kitchen towels and store them in it. Or some small vintage cookbooks would look cute also.

ReplyDeleteWell, I have almost that exact same wall basket. I use mine on the front door for my mail to fall in when the mailman pushes it through the mail slot. I love it and it looks so attractive.

ReplyDelete1) flowers, place a small jar to hold the water and then the flowers, unless you have dried or fake
2) Fruit, lemons, oranges, apples, potatoes, onions
3) those plastic grocery sacks
..thats all I can come up with at the moment
since it's on your pantry door--and i was thinking it could go on the inside of the door--but a place to put take out menus. or your favorite recipes. but those wooden utensils are a great idea too.
