Is She A Keeper?

I have been looking for just the RIGHT lamp to replace the one I have in my foyer...and this is the one that followed me home! I was in HomeGoods with my mother and sister the other day...walked in and the first thing that I spotted was a lamp display...ooooh...sooooo many beauties...but not just the right one...sooooo...off to the lamp section I go! When I spotted her, I knew she was the one...can't say the same for my mother...our taste is not exactly the same these days. I'm lovin' all my COASTAL decor in my home and this WHITE CORAL lamp was just what I was looking for...I think! Please tell me what you think...is she a keeper?

Here she is!

The price was right!

Lovin' the WHITE CORAL!

Does she need some dressing up on her shade or leave her just as she is?

  1. Like the idea but definately needs some dressing up. Maybe a strip of color around the shade or some fringe on the edge.

  2. Hmm you know me, I'm always a fan of all white and I am loving that coral lamp!! Wonder if our Home Goods got any of those!

As far as dressing it up, I don't know, part of me sees it paired with a really cool rattan or seagrass looking shade and part of me could see some trim in a soft pale blue/green. How are you feeling about it? I say follow your gut, and I know whatever you decide it will be fabulous!

  3. I think she's great but I do have to agree that she needs some dressin' up! I love how modern she is while keeping her coastal influence!

  4. I love her! I think the shade needs something, but I can't put my finger on it. . . maybe something with some texture. . . But I think it's def. a keeper :)

  5. Yep, she's a keeper for sure! I love the coastal vibe she's got goin' on!

  6. I agree with the previous comments. The lamp is great but maybe add a textural shade in a natural color. Very cute lamp for your Coastal decor.

  7. I like it! what about a big fat satin ribbon in blue/green/beige tied around the shade? Or burlap!!

  8. GASP! I love her! Give her a little bit of a make-over and dress her up right but otherwise I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS LAMP! ox

  9. I like it a lot! Can you switch out the shade. How about something in a tan color with a black band/ribbon to match the base?

  10. I'm in the keep and add something to the shade camp. I like how the coral is abstract, too.

  11. Love the lamp! Maybe the shade needs some dressing up - some trim? some ribbon?

  12. Okay, first thing's first...I LOVE that lamp!
And NO, don't do anything to the lampshade.
I know a lot of people are telling you to add things to it, but just hear me out:
With such an ornate bottom, if you add a bunch of stuff to the top, it will be a mess!
Right now it's part contemporary, part cottage (white...), but if you add more to it, YOUR EYES WON'T REST ON THE BEST DETAIL---THE CORAL!

  13. Oh good gravy - is she a keeper? Heck YEAH!!! And if you don't keep her, I've got a single-wide that needs her! LOLOL Gorgeous!!! As far as the shade? Hmmmm.... the band of color sounds like a good idea, or a band of white little tee-tiny shells around? That way you're keeping her simple but adding texture? Wait. I shouldn't be encouraging you, I need that lamp. LOLOL

    Great find!!!!!!

  14. Were you doing the happy dance all day? I bet you stuck her right where she belonged and found twenty-eleven reasons to walk by her! A soft color on the lam shade will be all she needs. too much, and it will distract from the coral. Great find! Karyn

  16. Now you know I love the light and airy coastal look, so yes she is a keeper. But, I think the shade needs some pizazz. I'm sure you have plans for it.

  17. Love the lamp! It is a keeper. It does need a little something on the shade.. but I don't know what. I am sure you will do something with it!

  18. Ooooo, yummy! I don't agree with the dressing up the shade comments! Yikes, okay people don't slap me!

I think it is such a beautiful piece as is. The simplicity is what makes me go "Wow". If anything, create a tablescape and bring in the texture through some shells and maybe a burlap runner. Elevate that lamp on some coastal books. I think it will be a standout piece in a beautiful coastal tablescape.

Okay and if you succumb to peer pressure and MUST alter the lamp in any way, I would maybe switch the shade to a burlap or linen look in lt tan. But don't embellish with anything. I think it would take away from the coral.

I love the lamp. It must go perfectly with your decor. I think that the shade is very much the popular style right now and I wouldn't change it one wit! Good for you!

  20. I like the lamp. You could leave it as is, or find some fabric to cover the shade. There's a Home Goods near the Portland airport. Fun stuff!

  21. If you love it, keep it....it can always be an "ice breaker" between you and Mom if thee is nothing to talk about! I can picture it beside jars of shells and some driftwood...i say keep it!

  22. If you love it, then it's definitely a keeper. It certainly fits in with your coastal theme. Maybe the shade does need a little makeover. Live with it for a while and then see how you feel. Best wishes, Tammy

  23. It's perfect! You certainly lucked out when spotting that ~ what better piece for Coastal Charm??? Tammy is quite wise ~ live with it for awhile and get a "feel" for what it does/doesn't need :) Judi

  25. Hi Linda,
That lamp is SO darn cute! I think it is a great choice and think it will definitely fit into your decor! :)

As far as dressing it up or not, I am a little divided! On one hand, the simplicity of the shade adds to the lamp. On the other hand, it might look really pretty with a little something like a ribbon OR you could even go further and recover it in something like linen or burlap. (?)

I hope you are doing great and have a fantastic weekend! :)

  27. I saw the same lamp on Monday and almost purchased it (among many others). As for the lampshade, I would maybe go with a light colored natural fiber shade. I got a beautiful one at Lowes last year.

  28. Hi Linda! First thanks for finding me and becoming a follower, because it lead me to your fabulous blog. Coastal Charm? I'm all about anything coastal and when its charming, all the better!

Since this is my first time to your blog I haven't seen your home, but I love that lamp and when I first saw it, I thought a torquoise shade would just make that coral pop. BUT, I also know that would only work in a very tropical home. I love white and depending on your decor I would leave it that way with no embellishment, but perhaps a trio of gorgeous shells close by. I love seashells as you've probably figured out by now.

Thank you for visiting The Hut and drop by anytime. I'll be checking back with you, I want to see more of your coastal decor.

  29. Love that coral!! Looks great on your buffet(?). Thanks for the visit. :)

  30. Thinking you could add a simple burlap "ribbon" around the shade and where the ribbon crosses add a starfish or other shell... would be just a bit of "color" although not too much. I've never seen a lamp like that... very cool!

  31. Oh Yes, she's a keeper. I love the stylized interpretation of coral. I'm in love with anything with a natural look. I might add a string of coral colored beads--or not!

  35. Hi Linda
Thanks for your support! I love your lamp...shade definately needs something-maybe cover it in burlap or something organic-like the sea, even netting.

  37. I like it but I would dress up the shade :)

  38. Love it. I wouldn't embellish at all. Let the coral be the showpiece. Maybe just change the shade to a natural fiber one.

  39. I love it! Definitely a keeper - especially at that price!
