Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays No.27

With all the rain we had this weekend, there was no way that I was going thriftin...this old gal just doesn't like getting wet...she's so SWEET...she just might melt (ha ha). I thought this week I would answer some questions that I get about thriftin...hope this will be helpful to some of you out there that are new to this side of shopping. I also thought since I'm celebrating my one year blog anniversary this week, that I would share some oldies but goodies from the past...I know that some of you have seen these...so if that's the case...just keep on moving on and for you new gals...take a look at these NIFTY THRIFTY TREASURES!!! Thanks for coming and please come again!

Question~Do I always need to buy something at every sale?

Answer~Sellers don’t {shouldn't} get their feelings hurt if there’s nothing you need that they are selling. You don’t owe it to them to stand around for at least 10 minutes loitering and acting like you might buy something. Your time is limited, get in, give it a good look and get out if you don’t see anything. A quick “thank you” is always nice. Always remember, that every minute you spend taking your sweet time is a minute someone else somewhere is buying exactly what you are looking for at a killer price.

Question~How Do I Find Good Stuff?

Answer~Be willing to go to lots of sales and see lots of junk. I only buy something at 20% of the sales I go to. You have to be the kind of person who’s committed to spend the morning finding mostly nothing in order to be rewarded with one amazing find. Some days are better than others and I come home with a boatload of treasures from maybe as many as 75% of the sales that I went to...you just keep on going and you learn as you go!

Question~When Is The Best Time Of The Year To Hit The Sales?

Answer~The best times are Fall and Spring...the weather is much better during these seasons and more people are having sales. Neighborhood sales are awesome...you can park your car and hit several within a few minutes. Most neighborhoods hold their sales during the Fall and Spring...so keep this in mind.

We found enough TRAVERTINE TUMBLED TILES for our kitchen backsplash...for pennies! Five boxes for...$25.00!!!! Yes...I did a little happy dance right there at the sale!

This is just what we wanted...I really could not believe that we had just saved hundreds of dollars...I guess it was our lucky day!

Small White Ironstone Pitcher...$1.50!

Old soup tureen...found this at a estate sale for only .50 cents!

Hello...my name is Linda...for six years I had an antiques business here on the Alabama gulf coast...I named my business COTTAGE CHARM. Cottage Charm was located in several shops, with locations in Fairhope, Foley and Mobile. I truly loved my business and met a lot of wonderful people along the way. Cottage Charm had a "Shabby Chic" feel to it with all the "chippy paint" and distressed furniture, vintage linens, hats, handbags and clothing. To some people at the shops I was referred to as "The Linen Lady"...I guess that was a good name for me since I sold a boatload of vintage linens...I think the 50's and 60's kitchen tablecloths were my favorites. My husband was a great help to me with my business, he was always there to load my merchandise when at market and local estate sales (husbands do come in handy)...thank you Mr.CC for all your help and encouragement...I could not have done this without you! Maybe one day I will get a wild hair and open my own shop. Here are some pics from the past...hope you enjoy looking!!!

Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays No.26 and a GIVEAWAY

This week let's start off with my FLORA DOORA GIVEAWAY...if you have not entered yet...you still have time...click here for the details...you don't want to miss this one!!!

On my way to the beach last week I discovered a new thrift shop...so I hit the brakes in my rental car (more on that later...I will have a post coming up soon about this subject) and turned right in!!! First thing I spotted was a huge sign that read...ALL CLOTHES $1.00...I knew for sure that I would not find a thing...WRONG...I found three items...a dress...a cute BEACHY sweater and a pair of pants that feel like a million dollars...I'm so glad I spotted the YELLOW COTTAGE...what a cute name!!!

Mr.CC's birthday was Friday so our baby girl came home from college to see her DADDY...she looooves her DADDY!!! Get the three ladies in this house together and what do you think happens? Yes...your right...they go SHOPPING and this day we decided to go THRIFTIN! We first made a stop at Goodwill...no luck there...then our next stop was at a salvage store...we really did good here. This salvage store carries a lot of Target merchandise, but they also carry items from upscale clothing stores and gift shops. Haley and Mary Claire both found some really good deals here...upscale home decor at 80% off...you should have seen them loading up the buggie...as they say...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!!!! I only came home with a bath rug for the beach condo...not that exciting. After leaving the salvage store we headed over to one of my favorite consignment shops and there I had some luck...check the pics to see what I found! Now it's your turn to show off what you found this week...don't be shy...it's okay to brag about your NIFTY THRIFTY TREASURES!!!

I'm sooooo lovin' this cute BEACH sweater...perfect for late fall and early spring here on the GULF COAST...cost me $1.00...now that's real NIFTY THRIFTY!!!!

Ann Taylor Loft is one of my favorite shops...love the clothes...they always seem to fit so well and I when I find pieces in consignment shops for pennies...I'm one really happy gal...got this one for only $4.50 (it still had the dry cleaners tag attached)!

Another one of my favorite shops is Talbot's...found this BRAND NEW (tags still on it) silk skirt for $11.00...I will be wearing this to some of weddings that we have coming up this fall.

This is a first for me...I found this dress for $1.00!!!

Bridal Shower Tablescapes

Last weekend I was a hostess for a bridal shower for one of Haley's friends...so I thought I would share with you some pics from the party. I usually have showers at my home, but this one was being held at a friends house...this was good for me since I got up Saturday morning not feeling well. The tables all had a different theme and my friend Pat did a outstanding job decorating each one. Pat and I share the love of decorating and we seem to have the same taste...our homes are very similar in style...so I knew that I would really like her tablescapes and I did! Take a look and maybe you will get a few ideas that you might want to use sometime...ladies if you are like me...you just love stealing (borrowing) ideas!

I will be linking up to these FUN parties!

Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays No.23

Did you think that I had forgot about my own party? Well I didn't forget it...just a little bit late...so here we go!!!! Last week my daughters and I went out THRIFTIN'...we were looking for some items for Mary Claire's new condo in Auburn. It's so funny that now that Mary Claire is 20, that she likes the style of home decor that her mom sold in her shop when she was about 10 years younger...you see back then she absolutely hated going to thrift stores...estate/garage sales and antique shops and now she is asking me to go with her...I can say...I just LOVE it! We had a lot of luck finding just what we were looking for...some old shutters to make a headboard...a old window to display some of her college "PARTY PICS" in and I found this old mirror that I just couldn't pass up. We are leaving tomorrow to move her in...looking forward to helping her decorate her new place. She has been painting several pieces of furniture for about a week now and has done a great job...can't wait to share all of it with you...so stay tuned!
I hated paying $12 for this old window...that's retail to this THRIFTY GAL!
Love the style of this mirror...the royal blue color...well it has to GO! I knew I had to bring her home with me when I spotted the $7.50 price tag!
Think WHITE...ahhhh...she will look soooo PRETTY IN WHITE!!!!
